Things are moving quickly in D.C. these days. Too quick.
Eleven months ago we were caught up in the excitement of an election and heard over and over again that "the time for earmarks and entitlements is over". This week we are preparing to vote on a Health Care Bill that is the largest entitlement ever passed by our government.
Eight months ago we were knee deep in what politicians called "the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression". This week we are preparing to vote on a Health Care Bill that will hurt, maybe even bankrupt, the private sector.
Seven months ago, when this process began, we were lead to believe that the crafting of the Health Care Bill would be a bi-partisan effort. This week we are preparing to vote on a Health Care Bill that was crafted in secrecy, and without the input of individuals who represent 48% of the United States.
Six months ago, we heard in a nationally televised speech that the Health Care Bill would not add "one penny to the National deficit". This week we are preparing to vote on a Health Care Bill that, despite what many claim, will add to our national debt and place a financial burden on future generations.
I am reaching out to you today to encourage you, and other Blue Dog Democrats, to vote against the Health Care Bill. America has always been a country that has prided itself on the initiative of the individual. It has been this initiative, not the acts of government that have made America successful. I am asking you to consider carefully before voting for a Bill that transfers America's future from the hands of the individual to the hands of politicians.
Kindly,
