State Sovereignty? How About Individual Sovereignty

"Minnesota Republican Tim Pawlenty urged fellow governors on Thursday to more frequently assert state sovereignty over the federal government and suggested that the country may increasingly see states suing the federal government."

I agree with this statement.  States should be exercising their soveriegnty.  The only problem is that the states have become increasingly dependent and intertwined with the federal government.  And the blame lies both on both parties: The States for not implementing fiscal conservatism; and the Federal Government for exploiting the states through regulations and requirements.

As I work for the federal government, I see the first hand how the federal government hands out money and how desperate the states are to receive it.  It is a broken and corrupt system and it is loaded with waste and abuse.  If States were to regain a larger portion of their sovereignty, taxpayers could feel slightly better that a portion of their money is no longer be flushed down the toilet.  Maybe we could get a break in taxes...haha...i know, unlikely.

However I feel that inorder for the states to regain their independence from the Federal government the first thing that needs to happen is for INDIVIDUALS to regain their independence from the federal government.  The Federal government has slowly been creating a dependence in the American public, and the American public has greedly accepted it at the cost of their liberty.  If the American public was to say NO MORE, if we were too once again work hard for what we want, if we were to do away with the misconception of entitlement, then, and only then, would the States regain their sovereignty.

Until we reclaim the liberty that has been taken from us, the American public and the States will continue to sit like a dog at the table of the Federal government hungry for a scrapt to be thrown their way.  This is not the America that I want.
